Farm Market Tours

Through funding provided by the 5 A Day Power Play Campaign and Sonoma County's Department of Health Services, we are able to take groups school children (4th and 5th grades) to visit our local Farmers' markets. Image: Farmer and Child. Photography by Doug Gosling, Occidental Arts & Ecology CenterThese visits provide children an opportunity to meet local farmers and learn about fruits and vegetables with a "Market Sleuth" Activity where they search for different fruits and vegetables. Each child gets a "Farmers' Market Buck" to spend on fruits or vegetables. This exposure to fresh locally grown food is a fun way to give kids a chance to try nutritious fruits and vegetables they may never have seen or heard of before.
